Smack right at us!

In desperate times, when all you can say is “unbelievable” and “this is too much”, its heartwarming to see people working hand in hand to rebuild themselves.

Watching, hearing, reading stories of heroism in the simplest form, makes me all teary-eyed. With all the unfortunate things happening in our country, one thing I’m very proud of, our compassion for our kababayans, our bayanihan spirit.

I’ve been meaning to post pictures of the wrath of Typhoon Ondoy in Metro Manila. The familiar streets that turned into raging rivers and lakes. But that’s all over the internet. When I look back, I want to focus on these:

This unfortunate event is the most humbling experience I have witnessed in my 26 years. It’s heartwarming and overwhelming. Everyone participated. Prayers were not the only thing offered, but actions were taken as well. Everyone felt pride in what they are doing. Suddenly, being a Filipino has become synonymous to a hero. We regained our pride.

To Ondoy, take that! You may have taken our material possessions, our houses, some of the lives of our kabababyans, but you failed to break us as a nation. With your coming, we became ONE.
